Children’s Theatre Workshop Logo

Overview
The Children’s Theatre Workshop is a nonprofit organization offering an inclusive environment for youth of all ages. It’s a place kids can come to develop valuable life skills while learning every aspect of the theatre arts and truly having a part in producing plays. The CTW called the historic Collingwood Arts Center their home.

I was hired to create a logo that felt classic and timeless. The inclusivity of the theatre played a major role in the design. Not only should the logo welcome everyone to the CTW, but it also had to represent all the different skills that the students learned, not just the spotlight. Kids in the CTW may be writing, set building, acting or working in sound design; all equally important jobs to bring a play to life. In my research, I heard story after story about the fond memories students had of the CTW and the Collingwood Arts Center.

Solution
I created an arched shaped logo, replicating the beautiful arches found both inside and out at the Collingwood Arts Center. I used the iconic red curtain, which was the same for all the students, whether they worked in front or behind it. And finally split the curtain and used a welcoming warm yellow light, representing an invitation and excitement of what’s to come. Plus it was a fun nod to the yellow brick road from the Wizard of Oz.
