Avant Tart Beer Label Design

Project: Collaboration between COVA Brewing and Barry Art Museum
Beer: Blueberry Guava Gose
Festival: Pneuhaus Art Festival

Project Overview

For the Pneuhaus Art Festival, COVA Brewing collaborated with the Barry Art Museum to create a special beer that embodied the spirit of both the festival and the artwork it celebrated. My task was to design the beer label for this limited-edition release: a vibrant Blueberry Guava Gose named Avant Tart.

Objective

The goal was to create a label that reflected:

  • The playful, experimental nature of both the beer and the festival.
  • The connection to art installations, specifically the inflatable and immersive works from Pneuhaus.
  • The unique color and sensory experience of the beer itself.

Concept and Inspiration

The beer’s bright pink color was inspired by the inside of a geode, directly referencing one of the festival’s featured art installations. To extend this playful, immersive experience onto the label:

  • I named the beer Avant Tart—a wordplay that connects the beer’s tart flavor with the avant-garde art showcased at the festival.
  • The label’s design highlights an illustration I created of Fabric Prism, one of Pneuhaus’ inflatable installations, reinforcing the artistic inspiration behind the beer.
  • The typography uses a bubble letter font, designed to reflect the playful and whimsical nature of Pneuhaus’ inflatable art structures.

Result

The final design successfully encapsulated the vibrant, creative spirit of the Pneuhaus Art Festival. The bold color and playful typography attracted festival-goers and reflected the experimental essence of the collaboration between COVA and the Barry Art Museum. The Avant Tart beer became not only a refreshing drink but also an extension of the festival experience.
