Children’s Theatre Workshop Logo

Client: Children’s Theatre Workshop (CTW)
Location: Collingwood Arts Center
Focus: Inclusive youth theatre education

Project Overview

The Children’s Theatre Workshop (CTW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an inclusive space for young people to learn every aspect of theatre arts. From acting and playwriting to set building and sound design, the CTW offers youth the opportunity to explore various creative roles in producing plays. The organization called the historic Collingwood Arts Center home, creating a deep sense of community for students.

I was hired to design a logo that felt both classic and timeless, reflecting the inclusive nature of the CTW. The design needed to welcome everyone, while also representing the range of roles involved in bringing a production to life—not just those in the spotlight.

Concept and Inspiration

Through research and conversations with staff and students, I uncovered countless fond memories of the CTW and the Collingwood Arts Center. The challenge was to translate this emotional connection into a visual identity.

Design Execution

  • Arched Shape: The logo takes the form of an arch, echoing the beautiful arches that characterize the Collingwood Arts Center.
  • Red Curtain: The parted curtain visually connects all participants, from actors to stagehands, reinforcing the idea that every role is essential to a production.
  • Yellow Light: A warm, welcoming light emerges from behind the curtain, symbolizing the excitement and possibility of theatre. This also serves as a playful tribute to The Wizard of Oz and the journey of creative discovery.

Result

The final logo successfully captured the inclusive spirit of the Children’s Theatre Workshop, emphasizing that all participants—whether on stage or behind it—contribute equally to the magic of theatre. The design became a meaningful symbol, reflecting the history, values, and creativity of the CTW community.
